This was going to be a pretty straightforward one in terms of background assets until another cartoonist friend echoed a thought that had been on my mind for the last two days and that I attempted to brush off. Namely, it would be cool if there were packing peanuts flying everywhere when the FYOM popped out of his box. Now that idea, which had never been outside the confines of my own twisted imagination*, had made its way into the world of tangible language and could not be ignored.
So, basically, I filled the little box I made with generic Rice Krispies and shot it at a high shutter speed in burst mode as I used the aerosol frost spray from the last comic to spray through the open top, shooting the “Rice Crisps” out of the box. I had to buy a special camera app in order to manipulate the shutter speed, but that’s just the price that must be paid when you’re shackled to the unholy demon that is creative ambition. Apparently, that price is $9.99. Honestly, not that bad.
*Thanks to Tim Burton’s publicist for the turn of phrase.
