January Update

Hello everyone!

This is Ari, the head writer for Mothorial! We hope you’ve had a safe and enjoyable Holiday season, and that the start of the new year has been a good one! There’s some announcements to make, as well as a poll for you all, so let’s get started!

First off, let’s start with that poll! So as you may have noticed, there were no seasonal postcards after the Summer one. As many of you know, the end of last year was quite a stressful and transitional one for Izzy, and as a result, secondary Mothorial projects had to take a step back in priority while those were dealt with. We’re still pretty new to the whole webcomic thing, so we’ve been working to create a healthy and reliable schedule and system to make sure everything is done in a timely manner. On reflection, we feel that the seasonal postcards are not quite important enough to warrant stressing over as much as she has.

With that in mind, we have decided it might be best to change up the postcard system. Rather than sending out a postcard for every season, we are instead looking at making the postcards a special occasion, more directly related to the plot of the story, and something Izzy can work on as her energy and schedule allows. If we have to pick between getting pages done and getting a postcard sent out, we want to pick the page every time.

We have also decided that it might be best to remove the “Get a special one-time doodle from...the Writer?” reward, not because I would not be able to do them (trust me, they would have been deeply terrible. There’s a reason I’m not helping at all with the art for the comic) but because, as we’ve realized in retrospect, this would require us to reach out to EVERY Patreon supporter we ever received and ask for their ref and request. This is simply untenable for obvious reasons, and since no one has been asking about those anyway, we think they should go the way of the dodo bird.

So here’s what we want to know: Are these changes acceptable for you all? Poll at the bottom of this update!

With that, on to the announcements! We’re very thankful to you all for your patience during our brief mini-hiatus that took place as the year ended, and we’ve been using the time wisely! To help make sure pages get done on time, we’ve been reworking our work schedule now that full-time is possible, while making sure to allow for leisure time. We’ve even got a new page in the works that has never been seen before, even by long term Patrons! Exciting!

To assist with this, I will be taking over for most Patreon duties. This means I’ll be writing most of the major updates, as well as getting information from you guys when it comes to cameos, postcard info, etc. I’m currently working on a proper cameo form to send out to our higher level patrons. I’ve also decided to make the Writer’s Blog posts bi-monthly (that's once every two months, not twice every month. Thanks, English) since, while I can write them rather quickly, there’s only so much I can really say in those before the real meat of the comic starts getting released. I’ll be switching back to a monthly format, should it make sense to do so, once there’s more to say and I’m not just rewording “Here’s how bat got invented” over and over.

Lastly, we hope you enjoyed the Q&A! For those who haven’t seen it, it was originally posted to the Foxglove Discord Server, though we will be posting a proper PDF here as well for download! Getting those assets done took a bit of time we really didn’t have, but it was for a good reason: Now that we have a huge array of Ava and Ackerley faces, I can run mini Q&As in the occasional instance when there’s a lapse in pages, since I can make those by myself and they’re still canon material for you all!
