Astra - UI Upgrade In Progress!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far! Just thought I'd pop in and mention that we are currently working on the Astra - UI Upgrade! This will be an update to most of the screens to make it a bit more modern/sci-fi as well as replace some of the older placeholders that we have.
So without further delay, let's look at the two screens that are done so far!

UPGRADE

Name Selection
A lot of the feedback we got from you is that you'd like to see your character as you are selecting a name, especially because MC isn't in the main title. We added MC and then decided to color-match him to the overall style of the selection. After that, we went with like an "ID" card to give it a sci-fi feel to it! Overall, we are happy with how it turned out and really appreciate your feedback of showing MC for this screen. :^)
Trait Selection
The first thing we did was match the style with the name selection so that it would all feel in the same look. Next, we had an issue that if MC is on screen, we have a lot of text to display and how are we going to do that. ACE Academy we used cards but because they were spread out (without showing MC), we had the space to type it up. For this, our UI found a creative solution where the text is shared between traits as you highlight them!
I know this is probably a very easy fix and other games have for sure done it, it's just funny when we were designing this and were like "HOW WE FIX THIS" and the UI person had like a lightbulb and basically said "watch dis". Overall, we are quite happy with how it shows along with the stylistic fit of MC being on screen.
That's the notes for these to screen so far! We are currently working through the extras menu upgrade now and will share things as they become available. As always, thank you for your continued support and feedback! <3

2024-08-12 16:08:14 +0000 UTCCompletely off topic, but I had an idea while playing Crystalline. You know the little chime or tune that signals the end of the day/night? What if we waited until halfway through the game or something so the player is nice and accustomed to that meaning a nice peaceful night, then, one night that chime only plays halfway through before its interrupted by like, glass shattering or a sinister sounding chime, que ambush scene or something. Make the player a little paranoid. Obviously this doesn't really worth with games like ACE or Ethereal, but it could work with games like Crystalline or potentially Astra where there is "life-threatening" combat. Idk just a thought I had
