History of the Pango

Hello Patrons,

Hope everyone is having a great mid-week so far! I just wanted to let you guys know that we were approached by Makeship for a possible collaboration last week. They are potentially interested in doing a campaign for a Pango plushie!

With all this talk about Pangos, we went digging to find reference artwork and then thought it would be fun to share with you all how the loveable blue blob came to be. :^)

Where It All Started

When we were making Crystalline, we wanted a creature to accompany the team. Not only would it add a whimsical/fantasy element right from the get-go, it would let us add some fun character interactions both with and related to the Pango! And so the work began to see what the initial design was going to be.

We definitely had some inspiration from dangos with Shou talking about it all the time in ACE, so a spherical blob was the direction we were exploring. Of course the name Pango similar to dango as well! We were happy with a blob/waterdrop that was extra expressive and continued to design down that path.

We were quite happy with this design but just wanted to tweak it a bit more to give it a more cute & friendly demeanor.

We made the eyes softer and gave it a little blush and thus the final concept art of Pango was done!

The Pango is Born

That is how we have this cute little blob today! The Pango was originally just suppose to be part of Crystalline but he transcended projects and is basically the PixelFade mascot now.

I foresee these blobs being a part of all our future projects in some way or another! And that pretty much sums of the history of the Pango. <3

Pango Plushie

At the time of Crystalline, we connected with a local hobbyist plushie maker in Toronto to do a very limited run of plushies only available for our Patreons.

Each of these guys were were hand made! Since they were custom ordered, we had the full variety of color for each Crystalline element.

While there are some perks to that, the scale was smaller than what a real Pango should be and it had a a more simplified shape giving it an almost square look as oppose to a more tear-shaped blob.

If we end up collaborating with Makeship, we would have one style (and color) but the goal would be to make them larger so they are a 1:1 scale and get the shape just right. We would basically want what a Pango would be in real life!

I hope you guys enjoyed the trip down memory lane for how Pangos were conceived! I put a poll below just to gauge some interest if you'd want a Pango plushie if the Makeship collaboration gets greenlit.

As always, please feel free to share your thoughts below! Thank you for your continued support. <3

I'm not a big plushy person as I simply don't have the room but things like pins/buttons,keychains, etc I could see myself buying

I'm always more than happy to add another to my pango family. Could always use a sixth pango. Or a seventh. Perhaps an eighth.

GIMME PANGO.

I find it interesting that in discussing the inspiration for the pango, at no point does the slime (from Dragon Quest) get mentioned.

Daryl Sawyer

I just remember the gambling pangos.

I'm afraid I'm in a phase where I try not to buy that kind of merchandise anymore. I find it cute, but those merchandises always end up getting dust in a corner of a room. I discarded/gave a lot of them last time I moved, so it's a "no" for me. I'm not trying to deny anyone's fun, though, so please enjoy cute pango plushies to your heart's content !
