Astra - June Update: Music!
Added 2021-06-24 11:31:49 +0000 UTCHello Patrons,
Here comes the first update of the week that will be focused on Music! So Mr. Eric was a bit busy this month with some moving however he's been delivering the last week!! So without further delay, we have three tracks to share with you along with their variants. Please feel free to have a listen to the lossless files attached and as well as design notes here. ;^)
Of course these names are subjected to change but here goes!
Encroaching:
So for this track, we wanted like a neutral sounding track that had a bit of a uneasy / uncomfortable vibe to it. The B variety did a great job with this and the A variety almost goes into something more eerie with its softer note.
Astral Crash:
We shared a WIP of this earlier however this is the finished piece! As you can tell, I am in LOVE with variant B of Astral Crash... it actually may be my favourite Pixelverse song so far! It has that 'we can do it!' anime vibe with a bit of sci-fi flare spruced in. Variant A surprisingly sounds quite different, this one feels more like a 'let's get ready'. A is great but B has earned the the CRASH song tag that we have once per game!
Love Theme (The most creative placeholder name eh?):
If the name wasn't spoiling it already, this track is for romantic scenes. Specifically, a more emotionally driven romance scene. Variant B is a bit more flexible whereas Variant A will definitely need to be used in a more 'heart to heart' sort of setting. Of course as a scene uplifts we can hit it up with a crossfade!
That is the music update so far! Our OST is 13 tracks long and we almost have all the 'main' ones done. After this, we'll be adding scene specific, supplementary atmospheres (like happy track 1, then a happy track 2 so we have a wider library), possibly character themes...etc. This game will be pacing as our biggest OST and development willing, I am hoping we hit in the 26-30 range.
As always, feel free to share your thoughts below. Thank you for your continued support and have a great Thursday! Please look forward to another post either tomorrow or the day after. ;^)

Astral Crash is fire, prefer B as well, but like both of them!!! Encroaching B giving me great vibes of doubt and uneasiness, but also a great atmosphere for spaceship interiors and futuristic mission destinations, it is super fitting forsure. Version A got same vibe only less anxious and creepy, so i feel it is overall more neutral. As for LT: I love both of those, super beautiful! Prefer B overall, but yes, A is heart to heart and more emotional, while B is more atmospheric and probably fits a great scenery. All i can say is this is pretty much perfect.

2021-06-24 19:16:11 +0000 UTCHere is my take on the tracks: Encroaching Astra: Variant B has small bass drops that IMHO make for great interruptions. When you are trying to bring in a sense of uneasiness, I find that sometimes it is too simple to lose sight of where you are in the environment. Having those subtle bass drops helps redirect your attention again to where source of that uneasiness is at that moment. Astral Crash: Variant B by far is the winner! It has more support from the Bass guitar and the percussions in it. In doing so it gives a bigger sound that keeps the feeling running longer and leaving me more satisfied and yet wanting more when the track has concluded. Love Theme: I preferred variant A because B just felt too busy. What mean is that in a romance scene I prefer to be entrapped in the moment. A does not have a lot of instrumentation happening. I think that is better because then you don't have the feeling of being subtly interrupted when more instruments are present. This is not to say that B is bad. What you might want to do is use both anyway but center which variant gets used based off what the scene calls for. If it ends up being pick one or the other choice and no compromise allowed, then stick with A.
