When it came to her father's side of the family, Josephine had always been something of a black sheep: a 'slip-up' that was little more than the consequences of her father's carelessness while abroad. She was something to be ignored on the best of days and ridiculed on the worst of them, and she had tread that path alone for several long, unkind years after her father had remarried. Thus, when her half-brother unexpectedly returned to the family estate one day from his mission to Haiti with a bride and a bundled, freckled baby by the name of Elodie Duval in tow, Josephine knew what she needed to do. The child was a "vaccine baby", she would need a big sister.
She looked after the child as if she were her own little sister, aiding her, and occasionally comforting when most of the old-blood in their European household would chastise her or look the other way, and as the years rolled on by, the pair became thick as thieves. Even when Elodie was shipped off to the other side of the country to a prestigious dance academy, the two kept in touch.
So when Elodie reached the ripe age of eighteen, Josephine had taken it upon herself to arrange a tropical Caribbean getaway, just for the two of them. She had spared no expense in reserving a room for them at a little seaside getaway in preparation for a weekend of sun, fun, and plenty of drinks. They had no sooner gotten to their hotel room than Elodie had begun to throw off her clothes and switch into a pretty pink swimsuit in preparation of checking out the resort's pool.
And it was that little road paved on good intentions and familial bonds that had brought them to the resort's gorgeous pool. With its cool waters and the distant crashing of ocean waves, it seemed like the perfect setting to kick Elodie's birthday off right on a pleasant high note.
