A Quest Set for Nobilis 4!

My to-do list for Nobilis is currently:

1. do four quest sets

2. do example quests

3. do the quests chapter (mostly ported from Glitch)

4. do the arcs chapter (like in Glitch, so very small)

5. do the setting stuff (mostly written, actually, but I left a lot of blanks for when everything else was done)

6. do the example of play

7. do the example campaign page/chapter

8. do the intro stuff (as per setting)

9. intro fiction?

10. all the layout etc stuff.

I can't give a time frame; it'll depend on my health and artist and layout health and whether I have adverse circumstances etc.

Anyway!

So the first thing there is quest sets---see Glitch for the model I'm currently using!---and I decided to type out my thought process on discord for a few playtesters as I went when doing the first quest set, so that I could snaffle up the text afterwards and share it with y'all! And I have done so at the link.

Also attached find a rough layout for the quest set. It is not in any sense the final or canonical layout, I just threw it together literally today.

Thanks much for the recap! Excited to give one a try.

There is no particular benefit to playing Nobilis 2 & 3 first except in that the writing of Nobilis 4 is not finished, which means that it won't be released for a while. (The hard parts are done, so there's little chance of it languishing in indefinite revision, but that doesn't mean it won't take a while to work through everything that has to be done---it's a lot!) Nobilis 3 was meant to be part of a series, and then publisher stuff happened, so while it functions standalone, it has a kind of looseness to it that not everyone likes. Nobilis 2 is a solid standalone game, but I've had a lot of feedback on its systems and had a lot of time to think about its rules and world in the past twenty years ... plus, well, it's very awkwardly sized for a PDF and impossible to print on demand. Nobilis 4 is an updated take on the general content using what I've learned over the years, is all. (Like Nobilis 3, it'll be technically part of a series---the same series as Glitch---but I've learned not to expect other books in a series to actually appear, so it won't be structured to rely on them even to the limited extent that Nob3 did.)

Is there a story benefit to playing Nobilis 2 & 3 first, so is it preferable to jump into the latest version?

Jeremy Jinkerson

Yes! This made my day, I am so excited for Nobilis 4E! And I am really glad the quest system is getting into Nobilis and its concept is expanded upon and clarified
