How I made a model

Hi guys, I've been really looking forward to bringing you my favourite battle in history, the Battle of Agincourt, part of my Hundred Years War series.  It's taken a lot longer than I thought it would so it won't be out until next week, but here's a peak at the model in its final stage and a time lapse video showing how I made it, or at least the first version of it.  I'll say no more, enjoy.

How I made a model

What a great tip, I'd never considered that. Models and figures can get pretty expensive. I've looked into 3D printing as well, but it's a bit over my old head.

Kevin Hicks

It was absolutely worth making this video, even though it is a lot of editing, for this battlefield. One tip I learned recently is to get hold of a bottle of pre-vulcanised liquid latex. Just pour some in to any mould, and within an hour you have arrows, and anything else you want. It is also a great adhesive, and you can also buy a hardener solution for it to make plastic-like figures. If you use Oasis, this can be used as a mould too. :)

Daniel Waddington

🤣 Trust you're keeping well 👍

Kevin Hicks

I really love your models and admire the dedication and craftmanship you put into them. But where did you get this ugly coloured glue gun, was there nothing with a more manly colour available? 😂

Marco Engelbracht

I've messaged you direct.

Kevin Hicks

Haha, no I get my figures mostly online, but there is a local store where I manage to pick up my modelling & scenery supplies 👍🏻

Kevin Hicks

I really enjoy your models!! And you get so happy about then it's even better to watch with your enthusiasm! Do you have a model store/hobbyist that you've gone to many years?! If so how often do you get to pick the first shipment before it goes on the shelves!? :)

alyssa johnson

I feel ya!!!😆they would make a nice chess set tho🤔

Rena

Pat O'Connell

Thanks!

Rena

They didn’t use bows. But the British Colour-Sergeants carried a Spontoon. A 9 foot spear with a crosspiece to prevent it from penetrating a body, too far. As Bernard Cornell pointed out in his book Waterloo. The spontoon would not have been out of place at Agincore. Cheers.

My son Josh (he's 30 now), was also very heavily into Warhammer, used to drive me mad when he managed to obtain & paint a whole collection he'd move straight onto collect a new set. There were figures everywhere - pretty much like my storeroom now 😉

Kevin Hicks

Love your models. My son when he was young used to do Warhammer and yes they take ages so I do understand whatever you do is always welcome.

Rena

I am beginning to build some figures but they take such a long time, so I really don't know when I'll manage to get to it, but it is on the list to cover one day. Maybe I could visit there instead....might be quicker 😜

Kevin Hicks

Could i request the battle if waterloo? . The formations etc . Using your models.Did they still use bowmen then? Apologies if this is not your timeline

Rena

Either way, looks great Kevin. Best regards.

Jonathan Robertson

Hey Jonathan, thanks. I don't doing any gaming, I just make the figures and dioramas for the videos, reusing pieces wherever I can. 👍🏻

Kevin Hicks

Amazing work and attention to detail. I couldn't help but notice that a lot of the pieces, especially the horses, have standardized bases. Do you do any tabletop war gaming or role play gaming? If it doesn't already exist, someone should design a netting with either hexagonal or square spaces you could throw over your battlefield.

Jonathan Robertson

My pleasure, I hope you’re keeping well down ther, we’re headed for a snow snow this weekend, my memory of warm evenings in Utah are distant now.

Kevin Hicks

That was really awesome! I enjoyed your thoughts behind your craft and how you get things to work. I appreciate you taking the time to show us even a little of how the magic happens.

Ann is fine. I'm a member of a couple of support groups on YouTube and use the Annabelle account for anonymity because they are not private.

Ann Hoagland

It did!!

Rena

Glad you liked the music Rena, we weren't sure what to pick, but I think it suits the battle well 👍🏻

Kevin Hicks

Thanks. Do I call you Ann or Annabelle? 😊

Kevin Hicks

Thanks Mercedes 👍🏻

Kevin Hicks

Yes you do need a steady hand, if it makes the cut, you'll see in the vide even I end up knocking some of the figures over 👍🏻

Kevin Hicks

I love seeing all of your set up and models. It really brings the battles to life seeing an accurate visual representation of:)

Miss Bobbi

Thanks, Kevin. That even enhances the history lesson you are going to present even more, knowing all the work you put into the preparation of the model battlefield. Cheers from Texas.

David A Strother

Wow! Did Kev make a model!you did all that layout and had painted all those figures before. Nicely painted. Amazing layout ,and the music was perfect , like going into battle. Can’t wait for the video of the battle.

Rena

Your models are amazing. Definitely worth the wait. (Annabelle)

Ann Hoagland

We really enjoy your models. Harfleur was superb, BTW!

Mercedes Hayes

A Pleasure Kev. Was Trying To Think Of What To Paint Up Next For Your Kind Self

Richard Macpherson

I do like your models, I was never good at them, I have familiar tremors, my hands shake , if I did this model we’d end up with some of the French behind the the English and it would be far from historically accurate. Shot expert in the army , that amazed some people
