New NJB: Japan's Great Streets

Hello lovely Patreon supporters!

My latest (and last) video about Japan is now available. This video is about all that makes Japanese cities so great (as well as some not-so-great things), and how the small, narrow streets of Japan make all of this possible.

Nebula: https://nebula.tv/videos/notjustbikes-the-secret-to-japans-great-cities

(The videos are still processing but they should be done soon, so if the links above don't work, just wait a few minutes and try again)

This is the last video I plan to make about Japan for a while.

These videos didn't perform super-well on YouTube, but I knew that would happen. I can easily get over a million views on a YouTube video if I a) shit all over the US or b) gush about something great about the Netherlands. Those videos are fun and all, but I need to mix it up with some other videos for my own sanity, but also to provide a wider context for how city design is done in other cities, and I think that these Japan videos have been great for that!

It was great to make these videos, and they would not have been possible at all without your support here on Patreon, so thank you!

Thanks again for your support!

Jason

So discouraging to see Japan doing widenings. Great video, though.

Video request: I would love to see a shorter video on the dangers of multi-lane one-way streets. I think Suburban Nation mentions how, when a lot of cities switched from two-way streets to multi-lane one-ways, to improve through traffic within a city, those streets became more dangerous both in terms of car collisions and crime, and a lot of businesses had to close their doors due to poor patronage.
