New NJB: Berlagebrug

Hello Patreon supporters! My latest video is about Berlagebrug, an historic bridge in Amsterdam that was closed recently for necessary rennovations. They closed the bridge for cars, but they built a whole new temporary bridge, just for bikes!

YouTube: https://youtu.be/g0F_hTGYa0Y
Nebula: https://nebula.tv/videos/notjustbikes-amsterdam-closed-this-bridge-to-cars-but-not-bikes

This video goes into the history of Berlagebrug, what kind of improvements were made (including significant cycling improvements) and about public transit, too. It's got a little of everything! I think you'll enjoy it.

Also, this is the first video where I am no longer including the Patreon credits, as I mentioned about a year ago:
https://www.patreon.com/posts/new-videos-and-79024145

For anybody who missed that conversation, credits were causing me a lot of grief, especially when mistakes were made and it delayed the release of videos. So I have decided to move the Patreon credits to the Nebula version of the video.

I've done this for a few reasons: primarily, because unlike YouTube, Nebula videos can be edited, so if there's a mistake, it can be fixed with a new upload. But also, the video can more easily flow into the credits, instead of being stuck after a sponsor read.

Last year there was a proposal to maintain an up-to-date list of supporters on notjustbikes.com, but I decided not to do that because there was no easy way to maintain it, but also, several of you DM'd me to say you didn't want your name on a public website that would be easy to scrape by bots for nefarious reasons. So this way, the credits are still burned into a video (better privacy), but they can still be easily maintained and edited if mistakes creep in.

Let me know if you have an questions, and thanks so much for your support!

It's fantastic how the Dutch continually prioritise the most sustainable forms of transport. I really enjoyed the overview of the nearby neighbourhoods in this video. I just came across this clip which I think shows Anne Frank in her original neighbourhood that you featured. https://twitter.com/historyinmemes/status/1774550990152462566?t=UTOeBiwfqJp8-zDiINQmQg&s=19

Yes, there's so much to say about Plan Zuid. I started included some of it in this video but it was just too much. And yes, I will definitely mention the social housing as it's a very important part!

I really enjoyed the video and I hope you’ll make the video about plan zuid. I would really like to see that. Hopefully you won’t only tell about Berlage but also about Floor Wibaut, the politician who was responsible for public housing at the time. He is a fascinating person who became very wealthy through trade, but became a socialist later in life.
