I think this is correct. I was not good enough at basketball until perhaps you were post-dunking. I did make you start unexpectedly in a tournament game once though. I remember you played admirable defense (as I'd envisioned) while trying to hold your shorts up.

I'm dismayed to hear you never saw me dunk. I think, in retrospect, we actually spent very little time in proximity to each other during my dunking years. And I actually disagree with you. While it certainly would have been funny to see a solitary 20 y/o attempting to dunk a tennis ball on the courts, well, so what? It would still have been worth it. And yeah, if you were that close, then some time spent doing the Air Alert II program that I did around that time might have gotten you over the hump.

Adam Drent

I actually never saw you dunk, but had heard tell and certainly took it as fact and gave you the appropriate respect as a dunker. When I was 20 I spent the summer athletic enough to dunk a tennis ball on the rim in my parents driveway, which was admittedly probably 2-3 inches under 10 ft due to being loose, but in my recollection I wasn't scraping it over the edge, there was some room to spare. I once considered trying it at the outdoor courts before realizing that a solitary 20 y/o attempting to dunk a tennis ball would have been the funniest thing in the world to me if I were driving by on the highway, and so I reasoned it would also be funny to many others and I did not try it, which I think was the right call. As I look back, though, I should have taken my tennis ball dunking ability and realized that meant I was only about 6-8 inches of vertical leap away from being able to dunk a basketball, and I had achieved that despite doing nothing to work out or exercise beyond working at Ace Hardware and playing a LOT of basketball. Had I trained for it from there, I could have possibly done it. Lo, what could have been.
