Colossal Data Loss
Added 2022-10-27 10:37:18 +0000 UTCHi.
Yesterday something very bad happened. Today I saw someone about a quick fix, but that's...not happening. A slow fix MIGHT be possible, but...expensive and slow.
I recently bought a new graphics card and a better power supply. In the process of upgrading the power supply, I didn't change all the power cables, and it seems likely that this...fried the three 2Tb hard drives I had in the PC.
My boot drive is an SSD, and this may have saved it. I can still boot up my computer, but ALL my data is gone. All my programs. All my games. Everything from personal files, rendered videos, video footage, video editing software... All my installed games, including those with only local save storage. The D&D campaign I'm running that I've been working on A LOT (basically all my free time has gone to it), all the files are gone.
I am crushed and I've been feeling physically sick with anxiety since last night.
I went to see some data recovery people today, but they're unable to help. They recommended some other people who do more hardcore data recovery, and they MAY be able to help, but it's...expensive. As in I certainly cannot afford to recover all three drives.
I will get them to try and recover my main drive - the one with all my videos, personal stuff, and D&D campaign on - but IF they can (and it's by no means a certainty), then they estimated 7-10 working days. It could be two weeks before I find out if my data is coming back.
Before this happened I'd already uploaded the next two videos (Slime Rancher 2 and Subnautica: Below Zero), but I had another Slime video rendered and part of another Subnautica recorded. Those uploaded videos will go out over the next 4 days, by which time I hope to have begun rebuilding what I lost.
I've got a new hard drive coming today, and I'll use that to reinstall stuff like video editing software, games, and the like. Basically what I need to do my job. I think I'll also take this chance to make some other hardware changes like improving my tiny SSD boot drive.
Basically...I'm devastated. I've definitely lost a lot of stuff, and I may still lose the rest. The recovery is expensive, and I am emotionally crushed. I'm also still not well as I have a sore throat (frankly, that's the reason I didn't have more videos recorded/uploaded).
I will desperately be needing your understanding and support right now. Luckily the last video I worked on was PokeSins, but it's gonna be a bloody slog getting my setup back to a state in which I can work.
Please be patient with me, because this is the worst technical issue and data loss that I've ever suffered. My own patience may be short for a while, so I apologise in advance if I snap more.
I'll keep you guys updated. I may tweet more about progress, so you can follow me on twitter with @Gar1onriva, and I expect I'll still be on the Gar1onriva Discord (https://discord.gg/UxxB477kkr) as that was somehow on my boot drive.
Thank you for your support, understanding, and patience.
Catch you later.

As someone that's had to deal with 3 dead hard drives since early 2019 on 2 different computers I can sympathize at what a pain in the ass it is. Fortunately I had critical stuff backed up when my computer completely died last year (because I wanted some of that available while I had access to only my laptop while I was out-of-state taking care of my mom for a month) but it was still a pain due to how much non-cloud stuff I'd lost, some of which went back to 2011. Good luck and hopefully you can salvage some of your more important files and videos.
