Uprising in LA: ICE, Mass Deportations, and American Fascism

Alyson and Breht record an emergency podcast on the current riots in LA, and resistance across the country, to mass deportations. Together they highlight recent events, discuss the function of mass deporations in a decaying capitalist system, analyze the spontaneous and militant community response, how terrorizing undocumented workers is a form of labor discipline, the fascist tactic of scapegoating the powerless for the crimes and chaos of the powerful, the role of AI in both displacing labor as well as bolstering the repressive state apparatus, and much more.

Thank you again, Alyson and Breht, for another great episode! I’m so glad that you are connecting the dots between AI and this current wave of fascist repression. I belong to a collective that has been studying the development of automation and its effects on labor. The way we see it, these advances in technology represent a revolutionary new “means of production” that is essentially creating a new class that has no ties to capitalism. If we’re being replaced by machines, how can we sell our labor to get what we need to survive? The ruling class is fully aware that they don’t need us anymore, but they don’t want to give up their precious private property. Their answer for this economic revolution is an ever-accelerating push towards fascism. Our answer must be to unite this new class and build a cooperative, communist society. The economic revolution is making this possible. We have to fulfill our destiny and carry out the social and political revolutions to make it reality. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

On the AI point I would say that I'm even more skeptical than Alyson. For years, I've been following David Gerard, who was one of the leading crypto critics since 2017, and was able to point out things like the FTX collapse years before they happened. He has now pivoted to AI and is providing just as good journalism on how bad A"I" currently is - expensive, unreliable, ineffective and potentially risky. There's just no good reason to believe that anything currently marketed as AI will be able to properly replace humans anytime soon. I think if there is any threat to the economy from AI, it comes from: 1. Employers greedily thinking they can replace employees with AI (they can't!) and then going out of business before they can re-hire the people it turns out they actually need. 2. The AI bubble capturing enough venture capitalist and state funding money to cause a full-on recession/depression once it inevitably collapses. I've linked his stuff here (both in written form and the playlist of him reading the articles out). Snappy, high quality content and his style of writing is very entertaining! https://pivot-to-ai.com/author/david-gerard/ https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=UU9rJrMVgcXTfa8xuMnbhAEA
