Fascism w/ American Characteristics (The Pokepreet Podcast Ft. Breht O'Shea)

"In this episode we are joined by Breht O'Shea to talk about fascism and it's peculiarities in the 21st Century."

I went on The Pokepreet Podcast for a second time recently and had a really in-depth and nuanced conversation about fascism, presently and historically; together we discuss how American fascism arising out of the ruins of neoliberalism is qualitatively different than previous fascisms, the role of insecure masculinity in all fascist movements, the implications of a lack of an organized and militant working class to combat it, the feckless liberal (non)response, the Democrats embrace of the "Abundance" agenda, the Palestinian liberation struggle, and MUCH much more.

Thank you for those kind words and for highlighting that statement - its deeply rewarding to hear that you feel its such a succinct explanation of dialectics! Thank you for the feedback AND for the support of the show, my friend! <3

Yea, I agree. Its baffling... At this point in his life he has nothing to lose, and still, he refuses. He could go down in American history as a Eugene Debs type figure, and instead opted to tie his legacy to a party that he KNOWS is defunct, corrupt, and on its way out...

I have been listening to the back catalog on dialectics and in this eposode, Brett, you say, "We have to insist on reality. Which is, constantly constant change and forward momentum and evolution and progress through contradictions and the conflicts that explode out of those contradictions and the progress that is gained by those contradictions moving things forward. That's dialectics." I think this is one of the most succinct and elequont ways I have come across dialectics summarized. Love the stuff you and Allyson put out. Thanks for helping keep this noggin sharp. I must add, it's still an abstract thought and without the aforementioned back catalog the summarization would still need to be fleshed out, but with the deeper understanding and the examples You, Allyson and the guests have already shared. The summary is just chefs kiss.

The beginning of the podcast made me think about, to the extent that Bernie is careerist, how sad to think he wasn't even going to take a risk at 80. An age which many Americans will never reach and he couldn't call it a day! Maybe part of it was truly believing the Dem messaging or even the self aggrandizing idea that no one could take his place in the Senate?
