I totally feel you, my friend, and If i were in your position Id do the EXACT same thing: secure housing indefinitely. youll have to pay property taxes every year, so make sure you take that into consideration as some places are much higher than others, but definitely using inheritance to make sure you have shelter for life is the smartest move. I wish you the best!

lol I’m reading his book on degrowth right now. It’s interesting and worth while but of course not without criticism.

Hey Breht, apologize for being a little off topic with this comment, but I just saw your story post on IG about the amount of homes being purchased in 2024 all cash. I remember you said that you aren't always able to read IG comments, so I figured I respond here instead. I saw the same statistic you reported last night on the Washington Post website. It's crazy because it's in line with my own plans for what I hope to accomplish within the next few years. I am by no means wealthy, but I had the good fortune of having parents (especially my father) who were smart with how they used their money and had the means to invest wisely. Because of that, I hope to use the money I inherit to do something I'd never do: purchase a home with cash. I've been renting my entire adult life, and now I'm at an age where I don't want to be saddled with a mortgage until I die. With the rise of AI and decline of capitalism, I feel like I can lose my job at any moment. Not a position I want to be in with a 30 year mortgage. Like I said, my parents aren't wealthy, so it will probably take my entire inheritance just to get a modest home. But I have to do what I need to survive. If I'm able to buy a home with cash in hand, at least homelessness with be something I can stave off. I hate being in this position where I'm a job loss away from being without a place to live and I feel this is the only shot I have to avoid that. Again, sorry to post off topic. Just wanted to share my thoughts.

I love that she called out how up- their- own-asses academic ecosocialists are. They spend an infuriating amount of time and brain power on the pettiest intellectual exercises... Saito's book is the worst I've seen and wouldn't be surprised if she was specifically subtweeting him with her comment about arguing how much Marx allegedly cared about the environment
