Hey folks, in this video, I’m introducing an update to my Melody Maker script that generates melodies and sequences with just one click. I’ve added new features to make it more expressive and customizable, and I want to walk you through the updates. You can download the script for free in the description below.
Randomized Settings:
The update includes randomization of velocity, timbre, and pressure.
These parameters can be adjusted via sliders, allowing for more expressive sequences.
You can turn off randomization for full control or dial it in for subtle changes in the melody.
Expression Modulator:
You can use the expression modulator to influence how velocity, timbre, and pressure modulate other settings like filter cutoff or wave table index.
The macro control allows you to adjust the strength of this modulation, giving you more flexibility in shaping the sound.
Motif Development:
Motif development takes the first few notes of a sequence and repeats them with variations like transposing, playing backwards, or inverting them.
This provides a more dynamic, evolving sequence compared to simple repetition.
Note Channel Count:
The note channel count feature assigns different MIDI channels to each note.
This allows you to route notes to different devices or apply unique modulations to individual notes.
Rhythmic Emphasis:
This feature allows you to give important scale notes (like tonic, fourth, or fifth) a higher probability of appearing on important positions in the sequence, helping you create more structured and harmonic melodies.
Generate Alternative Sequences:
A new "Generate Alternative" feature allows you to create slightly altered versions of a generated sequence, helping you explore different ideas quickly without losing the original pattern.
Clip Length and Looping:
The script now automatically adjusts clip length and loop range when generating new sequences, making it easier to experiment with different variations.
Step 1: Add a synthesizer, convolution reverb, and delay to your track.
Step 2: Create a new note clip and set the scale (e.g., Natural Minor D#).
Step 3: Hit "Generate New Sequence" and let the script randomly create a melody.
Step 4: Tweak the randomization and modulation settings to create expressive and evolving melodies.
Note Channel Count Bug:
There's a known bug with the note channel count feature affecting velocity and timbre randomization, which I plan to fix soon.
Get Step Method Issue:
A bug in the Bitwig API is causing issues with setting note data when using different MIDI channels for each note.
This update adds a lot of flexibility and expression to my Melody Maker script. Whether you're looking for randomness or precision, you can now fine-tune the output for your creative needs. Download it for free and give it a try! Download it here: https://bit.ly/3X8UX3R
Let me know what you think in the comments, and if you encounter any issues or have feedback, I’d love to hear it. Also, stay tuned for upcoming updates to my Scale Maker and Chord Maker scripts!
