Inverse Match EQ

Hey folks, welcome back! This video builds on yesterday’s, where I rediscovered an old but trusty plugin. Sometimes I stray towards newer, flashier tools, but I always find myself coming back to certain classics for their unique features. Today, I’m working with a simple kick-and-snare loop that needs some texture and top-end, so I’ll layer it with another drum loop using an EQ technique to handle overlapping frequencies.

Lately, instead of my go-to Ozone Match EQ, I’ve been using Curve EQ, a plugin I’ve had for 20 years. While I often swap in new plugins, Curve EQ’s simplicity and control are just unbeatable for spectral matching. I’ll walk you through using Curve EQ’s “inversion” feature, which makes it easy to avoid overlapping frequencies and allows each loop to contribute unique textures.

Key Points:

Curve EQ may be old, but it’s a solid choice for static spectral matching, especially for drum layering. If you’ve got Curve EQ, try it out next time! And if Alexei is watching, maybe consider integrating some of these popup options directly into the main GUI—it would be a huge workflow boost! Thanks for watching—let me know your thoughts below.
