I recently got my hands on the Ripple Delay plugin by Process Audio and wanted to share my thoughts. This isn’t a tutorial where I break down every parameter; instead, I’m focusing on experimenting with its features.
Ripple Delay lets you bring delay times down to one millisecond, and when combined with feedback loops, it essentially becomes a resonator. The most interesting feature is that you can place effects like filters and phasers inside the feedback loop, allowing you to create evolving soundscapes. I also discuss the limitations of Bitwig Studio's feedback system, especially the buffer size constraints, and how this plugin bypasses those issues.
Key points:
Delay as resonator: Ripple Delay’s one millisecond delay time lets you experiment with pitch and sound design through feedback loops.
Post FX in feedback loop: You can insert effects like filters and phasers directly into the feedback loop, affecting the evolving sound.
Limitations in Bitwig Studio: Bitwig's delay is restricted by buffer size, limiting feedback experiments, unlike this plugin.
Creative sound design: This tool can generate rich, atmospheric soundscapes, especially with post-delay effects like Valhalla Supermassive.
Trial version available: You can try Ripple Delay for free for 30 days (requires iLok).
