10Y of Bitwig - Competition

I'm celebrating Bitwig Studio's 10th anniversary by hosting a competition where you can win various versions of Bitwig Studio software. Just comment with the year it was first released to enter. Given it's 2024 now, the year you need is 2014.

The prizes are:

There might also be additional rewards, such as one-year upgrades for existing users and possibly some 8-track licenses.

Reflecting on my own journey, I transitioned from Cubase to Bitwig Studio, which reignited my passion for music production with its dynamic, modular approach that made music creation fun again. This pivotal change inspired me to start my YouTube channel, fostering a supportive community and allowing me to share my love for music production. Through this channel, I've connected with a fantastic audience that supports my endeavors, allowing me to focus full-time on creating music and content that continues to inspire both myself and others.

I’ve already mentioned how I started with a version of 8-Track based on BWS 1.x code and had issues with controller scripts. Eventually moved to the full version of BWS, which was my first DAW. Had done some electronic music in the 1980s and 1990s… skipped the whole DAW era, and came back after DAWs had established themselves. The primary reason I “bet on that horse” (instead of Live, say) is MPE support. Was getting into MPE controllers (Eigenharp Pico, ROLI Lightpad… then Sensel Morph, Orba, Instrument 1, and now Exquis, soon Loom). It was also pretty clear that Bitwig GmbH had “its ducks in a row” and its rate of improvement was already impressive. When they quickly added support for Apple Silicon, I was reassured about my choice. Obviously, improvements to the Grid have been a huge part of the story as well. I keep getting the update plan because it remains valuable to me. At the same time, the fact that Plugdata patches can run in AUv3 plugins on iPadOS has changed the game, for me. While it’s only been a few weeks since I made that realization, it’s changed my relationship to DAWs and plugins. Of course, patching is a more pleasant experience in the Grid than in Plugdata (or Max, Reaktor, VCV Rack, etc.). Plugdata is less stable than the Grid. Yet the benefit of “patch portability” outweighs the inconvenience, for me. Especially since patching in Pd is a “transferable skill” which actually goes beyond work in DAWs. Besides, there’s a lot to be said about encapsulation, in Puredata (as well as in Max and several other modular systems). It’s unlikely that BWS will ever support iPadOS (or Raspberry Pi, etc.). It’s also unlikely that any version of Puredata will ever reach the convenience of patching in the Grid. I still hope these systems can influence one another.

2014... I started using Bitwig in 2019, after years of hiatus from making music.
