Hey folks, in today's video we dove deep into creating a unique pad sound using a granular engine on the synth "Current". I kicked off the video with a bit of a pet peeve of mine: the lack of a built-in record button on granular synthesizers, something I believe should be standardized.
- The Workaround: Since the synth lacks a direct record button, I showed you how to record an audio track in your DAW, specifically using Bitwig's quick sampler.
- Pitch Tuning: I demonstrated how to identify the pitch of the recorded sample by using the "Detect Root Key" feature in Bitwig. Turns out it was D#3 - 16 cents.
- Granular Engine: In the granular engine, I manipulated various parameters like speed, spray, layers, and offset to get the sound we want. No need for modulation here.
- Wave Table: We layered the granular sound with a saw wave table and shaped it with a morphing filter.
- LFOs: Multiple Low Frequency Oscillators (LFOs) were used to modulate various parameters, including the filter cutoff and morphing settings, adding dynamic movement to the sound.
- Envelope: For a more evolving sound, I adjusted the amplitude envelope to feature a long attack and decay.
- Extra Flavors: I also brought in a second oscillator set to the fifth, added some phaser, chorus, and reverb effects, and explored using additional samples like noise and crackles for extra texture.
