Precise Snares & Rim-Shots in the Grid

This is how i (lately) synthesize snare & rims in the grid, with a kinda simple setup. It allows to create deeper dubstep snares and also more high pitched, rim-shotty snares for drum and bass.

Speaking of pulse waves in BWS… I knew that a square wave only had odd harmonics. Didn’t really know how PWM affected the spectrum apart from the fact that it got difficult to distinguish from a sawtooth as we got to a very narrow duty cycle. So, a tiny experiment: Harmonic Split right after a pulse, solo the even harmonics. At 50%, it’s basically silent. Around 25%, it’s pretty close to a sawtooth. Near 0% (i.e., a very low duty cycle, we get artefacts and the spectrum looks “clipped”). Similar thing with the sine oscillator, when we change the skew although the range is different (it’s most saw-like around 0% skew) and it’s even more saw-like than a narrow pulse wave.

Love it - thank you! I just setup a load of macros and several random modulators to subtly change each snare hit for variation. Using a transient control to mess with the attack is also interesting.
