How to make Bitwig better?

I talk about some small ideas that build on top of what we already have. Some changes that could make Bitwig stand out. Nothing "i need to have", just some "would be cool" ideas. There are a lot more, like everone else, i  have a backlog of these ideas 🤣

How to make Bitwig better?

> progressively “mutate” a melodic pattern Possible, depending on how you encode the melody in the grid. I have a bunch of rather large Note Grid presets that act as random sequencers and do just that: generate a random melody (over 2 bars, typically, with a maximum of 16 notes or less), store it in a bank of S&H devices, and then slowly change either a note pitch or a part of the rhythmic pattern. I’d totally love to share those patches, because they have ended up being very nice “ambient machines”, but I’d need to make videos explaining how they work, as they have some important knobs to tweak. If you’re interested, please reply here and I’ll send them to you somehow. (By now they’d require Bitwig 5)

(I also have a number of wishes which could potentially be solved in the Grid, if I knew how to approach them. For instance, ways to progressively “mutate” a melodic pattern over time with constrained randomization as in Cality or Riffer. Or a way to do automatic voice-leading in an arbitrary chord progression. Or a way to apply realtime randomization to a curve. Or a way to associate scale quantization with chords coming from a specific channel.)

Some neat ideas in there. In a way, it reminds me of Max or Pd. (Snapshots and such.) My wishlist has changed quite a bit in the past few years. For instance, MTS-ESP has become pretty important for me and it could fit the BWS approach really well. Somewhat relatedly, scale quantization could use improvement (both the “Key Filter” Note FX which is way too limited, and the “Pitch Quantize” which sure could use a preset system). Some kind of support for a “chord track” would be quite beneficial. Grid devices to handle some form of “static database” could open up many possibilities (not to mention more elaborate approaches to data processing).
