2022-07-31 00:06:15 +0000 UTCHope I'm not too late for the AMA, but I've made it in time, I have an organising question: I'm part of a couple of political groups in my city based on mutual aid and anti-racist organising. These groups are good in that they're run by principled leftists and they've been able to talk to and recruit ordinary people who weren't politically engaged before (instead of just drawing on a small pool of people who are already leftists). However, we're finding that it's difficult to engage with these new members to encourage them to get more involved- while people will come to individual actions to help with food aid or workshops to challenge border police, they don't seem to engage with running the groups or helping to plan what we will do in the future. As a result, virtually all the management, recruitment, organising and planning of these groups is done by a small cadre of communists, and we're constantly running on the edge of burnout. Do you have any advice for educating and politicising new activists so that they can see the long-term visions we have for these groups, share it and develop their own political education?
