2023-07-05 15:04:15 +0000 UTCCouldn't agree more. i think its also good to shine some lights on certain workflows, to inspire people to try them out in the next project. and in the meantime you learn how things connect. So i think sometimes its better to show a practical example, and the viewer connects the dots (aha effect) instead of pointing directly at it (showing how to misuse LFOs vs. a LFO is just an OSC)

So your tricks, here, could work in Essentials. https://www.bitwig.com/feature-list/ Speaking of those (incomplete) editions… didn’t you talk about a lower-priced version which would allow people to use Grid patches and not create them? Sounds like this didn’t happen.

2023-07-04 16:35:34 +0000 UTCClever workaround for the lack of phase input. Your explanations are quite clear for those of us who’ve already developed enough knowledge to get what’s going on. Part of the value of BWS5 is in making it clear that modulators and oscillators are the same thing. As Chris said, as soon as you get into audio range, LFOs are oscillators like the others. So, what you demonstrate here has didactic value. Building a course in sound studies, we could leverage Bitwig’s DAW in this way. After playing with Polymer like this, we could open up the Grid version and bring the modulators inside the Grid, even if we want to use controls outside the Grid. As you say, we don’t need to do things this way. The same results could come from the Grid. Apparently, some people still have issues with the Grid. They could still use Grid patches without knowing what’s going on. And that would even work in the new “player” version. You repeat that there’s no limit. Which is accurate. And potentially overwhelming. As is often discussed, limitations can help the creative process. Because, after all, many of the sounds you can build with such a setup end up having similar æsthetics. Not that they actually sound the same. Just that they don’t necessarily have a distinctive effect. Especially if you use them as pads and drones. At one point, you hear the effects more than the complex interplay between complex oscillators.
