Pedagogy of the Oppressed - Paulo Freire

Comments

Yea, thats really interesting. I think when it comes to teaching children, there could be a synthesis between the active, cooperative form of education and a more traditional way a teaching. In fact, out of necessity, I think sometimes traditional education is pushed into Freire's direction via the sheer fact of how children best learn. Education often ossifies into the worst of the banking method as those children grow. But I am open to being corrected on that, as I have never been a teacher in a preschool or kindergarten context.

How do you teach/learn foundational knowledge using Freire’s method? His method always strikes me as perfect for exploring the world, but often you’re reinventing the wheel to not get the 101 level info under your belt first. Not advocating the banking model but wondering if there’s some synthesis for “the basics.”
