Faith & Capital: Maoism, The Mass Line, and Decolonization

In this collaboration with Faith and Capital, I am interviewed on a wide range of subjects, including whether or not there is a contradiction between spirituality and marxist materialism, the importance of decolonialism in the fight for communism, the pathology of whiteness, the material benefits of imperialism for the labor aristocracy, the importance of love and compassion on the left, and much, much more!

Yea, I think there is serious overlap there for sure. I would argue that the middle class is a fiction *in how its used in mainstream political discourse* to conote a static class that is somehow not the working class, and thus has something meaningful in common with the ruling class. In that way, which is how its used mostly, I think its a myth. As for a specific relatively well-off strata in the working class proper, sure we can use it meaningfully! and I would say the labor aristocracy is prominent in that strata, if not synonmous wiht it!

I loved the Che quote about the imperial core and the labour aristocracy! One question I have though is how is the labour aristocracy different from what people tend to call the middle class? Later in this episode you call the idea of the middle class a myth. Isn't the function of a 'middle class', or the disputed 'managerial class' (altho perhaps this is used to denote different sociological functions than labour aristocracy), very similar to the labour aristocracy as it entails materially and ideologically bribing a section of the working/proletarian population into siding with the capitalist class?

Thank you Shane! I really appreciate the feedback and am glad you resonated with some of those points! I agree that many Buddhist notions dovetail well with Marxist ones when we seek to find connections instead of contradictions between those schools of thought and practice!

Damn dude, this one was great. I agree with you that the political/economic and spiritual are two different things. However, I have noticed how the Buddhist notion of attachment does compliment Marxist thought. Trying to solve a problem before lashing out etc. Super interesting stuff man. Love it! Get that bread comrade!
