Early Release - Patrons Only: Dockworker Power: Racial Justice, Class Struggle, and Proletarian Internationalism

History Professor Dr. Peter Cole (previous guest from our IWW episode) joins Breht again, this time to discuss his fascinating new book Dockworker Power: Race and Activism in Durban and the San Francisco Bay Area. We discuss the labor history of dockworker unionism, the racial justice campaigns that workers in Apartheid South Africa and the United States partook in, the impact of these labor struggles on local cultures, proletarian internationalism, and so much more.

One time i went down to the union hall out here in SF looking to join and i got laughed out the building. It is almost impossible to join them, those jobs are extremely coveted. Also, those jobs are passed to family members. I have always wanted to work the docks. I want to be apart of international revolutionary history that has always defined the bay area. Not only that, its in such a beautiful location. I romanticize working in all day in and out getting to over look the bay.

Thanks! I must read this book now. When I lived in San Francisco I used to walk by the Local 10 Union hall where they had painted "chalk drawings" of the two workers who were killed during the General Strike of 1934.
