This was really great. I just read Alpa Shah's Nightmarch would really recommend it as prep for the Naxalites episode. She's a British Indian anthropologist who is not ML or MLM but certainly a sincere leftist with a very astute and compassionate approach towards the Naxalites. I found some her critiques of the movement quite compelling, but tbf her book is the only literature I've read on them. She spent years with the Adivasis and with the movement, so she's able to look at the encounter between the high caste urban leaders and the Adivasi communities from both sides, suggesting that sometimes the high caste leadership brings their own cultural assumptions and misunderstands Adivasi indigenous traditions, some of which are actually quite egalitarian but are wrongly seen as oppressive.
