Austin Hayden Smidt is Co-host @wisecrack (Show Me The Meaning), @owls_at_dawn & @idigthismovie and a producer @inventfuturedoc.
Austin joins Breht to discuss the philosophy and political relevance of post-structuralism, postmodernism, and post-postmodernism aka "metamodernism". We explore the connections between these philosophies and Leftism, exploring both the contradictions between postmodernism and Marxism, as well as the connection between postmodernism and post-left anarchism! We also talk about irony, sincerity, neoliberalism, how social media shapes our psychology, and more!
Enjoy!

My favorite part was the discussion about god and the occult “able to creep back in.” Theres fundamental problems with liberation theology (specifically removing individual agency) but on a metaphorical or rhetorical level there’s a reason why it’s “common sense” to believe in a higher power and commonly feels alien not to and I believe that’s the same reason compassion resonates with leftist ideology. Not literal deism or occultism but rather a sense that we’re all connected and collectively responsible for each other and our world.
