i have to give scaler 2 another chance ;)

Polarity

Had pretty much the same thoughts, when it came out. I do enjoy chord tools and exploring them is part of a longterm (slow) research project, for me. A dealbreaker in this one, for me, is the limited number of chord types. I need more than that to experiment. In fact, major/minor is too limiting. One thing I do enjoy about this one is that it does a bit of voice leading. Many such tools focus on parallel motion or merely rely on inversions. For those tools to be useful, they should at least apply this basic type of “smart” harmonization. As for Scaler 2, I get what you mean. However, the current version does have a “Suggest” mode which gets you to understand what’s likely to sound good together. Plus, it has a more than decent library of progressions which are more than automatic applications of standard patterns based on chord functions. For instance, I’ve had a lot of fun with the “Acid Jazz” chord progression, which has some nice voicing work. It’s pretty effective in terms of understanding chord progressions because chord structures with the exact same name sound quite different based on both voicing and transition with other chords. On iPadOS/iOS, I really like Suggester (which, as you might guess, suggests chords and voicings). And Tonality, which is a full “workshop” on tonal harmony with a few notions from serialism thrown in. (Upon my simple suggestion, the dev quickly added pitch class set notation.)
