Hard Clip - Bitwig native
Added 2020-08-11 13:33:11 +0000 UTCIn this video, I explain my preset 'hardclip', a solution I created for Bitwig Studio to avoid using the external VST, FreeClip. Here's a summary:
- Purpose of Hardclip: To clip peaks in audio without going into the red or causing intersample issues.
- Construction: It's made using Bitwig's Bit8 device and includes two tool devices. Simple and effective.
- Application in Drum & Bass: Essential for maintaining punch and snappy attacks, crucial in drum and bass. The hardclip preset handles peaks at 0 dB, allowing loudness gain without exceeding this limit.
- Usage Tips:Adjust input and output gain for balance between distortion and preserving transients.
Optionally, use an EQ before the clipper to drive specific frequencies into it.
The preset mainly revolves around input and output gain, with other features being supplementary.
Experiment with the Bit8's noise function for sound design effects. - Results: Demonstrated with a drum base sketch, showing how it enhances loudness (RMS increase), adds desirable distortion and overtones.
