🤓 Transform your Synths into generative Patches with this Bitwig Grid Tutorial for Beginners

I often notice in conversations that the basics are not in place for  everyone. That's why today we are refreshing everything from the bottom  up. We start with a simple synth and turn it into something generative.

🤓 Transform your Synths into generative Patches with this Bitwig Grid Tutorial for Beginners

So great and so helpful!

Hey Alexandre, so you think chapters would help? I started to add time markers to my Bitwig Tips and Tricks videos (because multiple tips in one video) in the description. The playback progressbar of youtube is then splitted into parts. Maybe this could help here too? Thanks for the feedback! edit: ok so i added a lot of timestamps to the last 2 longer grid tutorials too. should be helpful!

Something I like about this one is that you’re bringing people on a bit of a “learning path”, using something close to “scaffolding”. To create generative patches, people need to understand how pre-cording works. So it’s nice that you spend the time to explain it (about 16 minutes out of 28). Having said that, since pre-cording was a significant part of the original material about the Grid (since it’s such a distinctive feature), some users already get this and it’d be neat if they could easily skip that part. If this were about learning modules as part of larger set of training material, it’d be a natural point to split between two parts. “Now that you know how to do this, here’s how to proceed.” That also works well if you’ve planned a series of YouTube videos as it helps people orient themselves through the series, with milestones which help them track what they’ve learnt. Even in a standalone video, it might be quite efficient to “telegraph” what the parts will be and/or add chapter markers. Though 28 minutes doesn’t sound very long, there’s something to be said about maintaining learners’ attention. “Why are we learning about pre-cords, again? Oh, right, generative patches…” Also, really tiny nitpick: the default Grid patch has the Triangle, AR, and Audio Out modules. The difference with what you’ve used in the video won’t confuse anyone. It’s just a tiny little bit easier on the brain to hear the exact same thing in the example as they play on their own system.
