Craziest Guitars Commentary

Comments

I was a teenager in the 80s and though I was a new waver and not into rock/hair/metal bands at all, I was very familiar with the "Are they serious?" conundrum of bands at the time. When you look at the outlandish photos and videos of many of the bands of that era, I totally understand that it's hard to imagine today that they wanted to be taken seriously, but under all that hairspray and eyeliner they were dead serious about their music, for sure, and Mr. Batio is a testament to that. What an interesting guy! Mr. Batio was so much fun to watch! I mean, yeah, he is maybe out-nerding you here with his enthusiasm for his guitar collection, but I agree that it's fascinating to contrast his style to yours. I definitely see mutual respect there. Props to Mr. Batio for keeping it going this long. As you said, even the strap on the double guitar is painful -- I can't imagine playing that way for decades! Lengendary! And, as usual, it's so much fun to watch you try your hand at his guitars -- the quad footage is hilarious. It's actually funnier that you couldn't quite get the lasers going -- I imagine if you had, you would have fallen into a time portal and gotten trapped in the 80s! I think you are on to something here with solving the mystery of the missing bottom half of the quad guitar. That's podcast material right there! The Great Quad Guitar Mystery could be your lead story, then you can spend later episodes trying to find all the gear that's been stolen from bands' vans throughout the history of rock'n'roll! (Sadly there's lots of gear that needs to be tracked down!) I'm joking, of course! (Or am I....?!)

I'd never heard of Mr Batio, so it was surprising to see that what initially looked some kind of mirrored image was in fact the General Grievous of guitars. I have to say, one of my favourite moments was when you and Michael were playing the quad guitar together, there's something about the contrast between your playing styles that I really liked! Thanks again Rob!
