IMPORTANT! The Patreon Has Changed!

Hey guys! We did it! The Patreon is squished! But we did more than just squish the tiers — we did some important and helpful housekeeping at the same time!

Here's what you need to know about the Patreon changes:

• We reduced the number of tiers down to 3 regular tiers and 1 high donor tier. This is to make things less complicated on the backend, and also to reduce choice paralysis for new patrons.

• We reduced the promised offerings to the bare minimum. Although we still plan to make side content like Q&As and Tales from Treehollow side stories and release them to $10+ patrons, we want to do them on our schedule, and not disappoint patrons who are eagerly awaiting things we won't get to for months or years.

• We removed commission-related offerings. I would love to continue to give those offerings, but like the side-content, I don't want patrons to sign up excitedly to use them only to find out I open commissions very rarely! I will consider re-adding them in the future if I start being able to actually offer them more often.

• We removed free downloads. Between the prohibitive technical difficulties of getting unique coupon codes to each patron for a free Tales from Treehollow and GPRE preventing us from distributing PDFs to European and Northern Ireland folks, we have opted to remove all free downloads. It's much easier for us in the long run, even if it's a bummer we can't offer it.

• We reduced the price of the top tiers. Since we're dropping a lot of the extra cruft from the tiers, it makes sense to reduce the prices of the higher tiers in accordance.

• We raised the price of the lowest tier. While rearranging all of the offerings, we've packed more value into the lowest tier. As such, we're raising the price. But don't panic! Read ahead to hear more about how we're grandfathering y'all in at the current price.

• We revamped the Collections. In the past, we've used Patreon's Collections feature a bit, but without proper organization or process. Now we've planned them out better and even added a bunch of old, useful posts -- all the way back from 2014! Visit the collections page and see for yourself. Find the Tamberlane pages that haven't been released to the public in the Early Access Pages collection, Q&A's and other side content in the Side Content, and so forth. There is even a collection for each year of artwork.

• We deleted old posts that are no longer useful. This includes posts that were only useful for a short time (like a warning that a page will be up a little late), posts that give instructions for offerings we no longer offer (to reduce confusion), and posts that announced upcoming events that have long since passed.

• We updated the Reward Index and FAQ. We've added notes about lifetime rewards, the unpublished $2 legacy tier, and more.

• We've begun releasing Early Access pages for one-time purchase in the Patreon shop. If you want to know what happens next in the story without committing to a whole upgraded tier cost, you can buy each page individually! (I wish I could go lower than $3/post but it literally will not let me lol)

• We've replaced the Books 1-4 comic page posts in the Patreon with the fresh, edited page versions. It was a difficult choice to decide whether to keep the old posts or not but we are opting to delete them to avoid confusion and make the reading experience on Patreon cleaner. Each book has been added to its own collection for easy reading.

Continuing Our Fresh Philosophy

The previous revamp we did last year was all about recentering the offerings on the comic, and reducing the extras we provide in order to really boost the amount of comic available. This has gone fantastically! The buffer of available comics was so robust that I was able to effectively take 2 months off of work for preparing for, undergoing, and then healing from surgery. (I didn't do a lot of comic work in the month before surgery; the current break is mostly to reduce the stress of the buffer getting low.)

In addition, I've been able to spend more time creating art for myself than I have in years! And I've done so many studies and practice sessions since 2024, which have really paid off in the quality of the comic!

And of course, we maintained the philosophy that patrons are supporting the production of Tamberlane, a very high quality and free comic, on behalf of themselves and everyone else who reads it. High tier rewards are bonuses that we offer in appreciation for their decision to support at a higher tier; they are not rewards made to entice people to a higher tier.

So for this minor revamp, we just wanted to really take that philosophy farther. We analyzed what parts of the Patreon still caused me stress, and made removing that stress our priority. In addition, we wanted to reduce the number of tiers in order to make it easier for me to release things on the back-end ("wait, which tier gets what again?"), as well as reduce choice paralysis for fresh patrons.

As you can see, it's pretty much the same! It's just stripped down to its most core offerings and squashed into fewer tiers.

I know that the jump in price for the lowest is not ideal — I struggled a lot with the decision, but ultimately, the rewards are worth the money and I've had folks telling me to raise my prices on the lowest tier for years.

All that said, if you're already on the $2 tier, rest assured that you will be able to stay at that price and your current rewards for as long as you're pledged to the tier. 

🍂 Some things to note for patrons on the legacy $2 tier:

• The tier has been unpublished. That means if you unpledge from the tier, you will not be able to get that price again.

• The rewards for the $2 tier remain unchanged. You will get the page a week early, access to the patreon channel on the Foxglove Discord, and a thank you on the site after 12 consecutive months of pledging.

• Unless complications arise, this grandfathering will remain in place indefinitely. There is no time limit for when you will stop receiving rewards unless you pledge to a published tier.

🍂 If you are currently pledging at $50 or $150:

• Your tier will be DELETED at the end of April. When that happens, if you have not pledged to another existing tier, you will lose access to your rewards.

• PLEASE CHANGE YOUR TIER ASAP to maintain access!

• If you want to continue to pledge at a higher amount (thank you???) but still receive rewards, once you change to a published tier, you can customize the amount you want to spend following the instructions here.

Next Steps

Whew!! Now that that's done, what's on our plate? 

• In the near future I also plan to start posting some art from older years to start fleshing out the older year artwork collections. There are a lot of years where the bulk of my work didn't get posted to Patreon! If you wonder where the art is that corresponds to each artwork collection's cover... it'll get posted at some point in the future!

• I am still working through the owed lifetime rewards, which I plan to devote Thursdays to, hopefully while streaming on Twitch.

• And of course, I'm working hard on comic pages and getting that buffer back up! $10 patrons, get ready for more!!
