Live at Nerdcon

My full 3 song set from Nerdcon. Or at least all the notes that I could remember from these songs. Songs and full set are attached, video goes live tomorrow!

Have wanted to put out a video like this since that unflattering performance of me at NAMM came out in 2015 (or 2014 maybe?). Figured this crowd would be the best possible for a video like this. I didn't exactly nail all my parts but I think it turned out well and people enjoy it.

Have a good one!

Was a good time. Pretty much anything the Green brother put together is going to work.

I wish I could be there x(

Sam

yea! They 're available in most places but currently won't be available in the US until april. Got a 7 string probably on the way.

I love it Rob! Hey any info on your signature guitars?

Ryan Valentine

Yes! That is indeed true, it was the first cover I made after acquiring a GoPro. I was originally going to do something special with it, like playing it in D standard, but I just played it regularly because I actually used it for applying for Norwegians Got Talent, which by the way got me called in for pre-cast. Sadly though, I chose to play my first ever original on an Acoustic, which was percussive fingerstyle-ish inspired by Mike Dawes and the other Candyrat virtuoses. It got me through to the TV-sent rounds, but it went horrible at the actual audition on TV. I find it really hard to write a song that both has a melody line that you're getting back to and at the same time keeping the song interesting and creative. I did make another original some time ago, that I am much more satisfied with, and I also named it after you, because the whole song was heavily influenced by your kind of tapping and sound in general. I used my grandpas old 77 Fender Strat for it, that probably isn't perfectly intonated and goes very quickly out of tune, but it sounded probably decent. I am also horrible at mixing and don't really have a clue about how to EQ etc., especially not solo guitar, so I didn't really do anything with the audio, so it could be improved a lot. I also struggled with playing the parts clean, and since I was going to use this song for applying for a music school, I had pretty little time, so I figured I'd go for a One-take, so that some mistakes probably would be acceptable. One problem I have with playing this style, is that it's really hard to tap the correct notes and not hit the ringing strings of the chords so that the sound "dies out". I'm not sure if you have heard it, so I link it here if you want to give it a listen: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqBReU5B8mA" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqBReU5B8mA</a> If you have any tips for me about the songwriting or the technical aspect, I would be very glad to hear your feedback. Thanks A LOT, Rob :)

Oh nice! Yea that's an older tune now, I really gotta make a full music video for it with the new guitar I think soon

Rob Scallon

That's so cool to hear Marius! Do I remember seeing a cover you did of that song somewhere? or am I imagining that...

Rob Scallon

wow sounds great Rob! not sure if I heard Anchor before but I get a little Steve Morse vibes at parts and I don´t mean the 8th string :)

Rob Lundgren

Amazingly done, Rob. I can still remember the first time I heard For That Second last summer, it gave me such a special feeling nothing else have given me before. I had to learn it straight away, and everytime I listen to it and even play it myself to this day, I get that same feeling. Thank you for that, Rob!

haha well thanks, I think it was not the best amp for the job but also the video was just the raw mic signal. This time the mic on the amp was worked on quite a bit by Fluff to be the best it could be.

Rob Scallon

We all know that it was the terrible amp's fault at NAMM. The performance was great. Regardless, this rules.
