The Down-Tuning Experiment

Mp3 attached and video goes live Monday :) Video commentary for Patrons 3+ http://www.patreon.com/creation?hid=1114028&u=34856 Song Stems for Patrons 5+ http://www.patreon.com/creation?hid=1114032&u=34856 So does down-tuning your guitar make you heavier?... In this video I asked cleartone to send me a ton of strings and play the same riff in E, E flat, D.... all the way to Drop Q I've always wanted to experiment with this and for a good chunk of the video it is a real experiment. But as things get heavier things get a bit out of control :) I filmed at a Powerlifting gym where the people there are used to things being really really heavy, and then I kinda went nuts. It was fun. Hope you enjoy this and thanks so much for supporting my music and video making. Have a good one :) -Rob

throw some bass strings on it and tune it up until the strings are barely audible haha

Rob Scallon

so what exactly is your version of drop Q?

Kermit Sudoku

can't argue with that! haha

Rob Scallon

I would agree, also of course it depends on the riffs. This one I think craps out around C# and starts getting less heavy.

Rob Scallon

;) same!

Great video. But only listening to Manowar - the kings of metal - will make you heavier. ;)

I think between C# and A# things started getting a little less defined which actually made the whole thing less heavy because there just wasn't anything substantial coming out the guitar (when you played the b5 chord in the second half of the riff I couldn't hear the lower open note at all after a while). I think there's definitely a limit, and B is my personal limit :)

Matt Good

I'm glad you had that drill handy. :)
