It's been quite a few months now with little to no updates. I'm sorry about that.
It's a combination of things, none of them individually overwhelming but all of them adding up to my inability to create new content.
I started this patreon as a way to help me fund and create my own game, with the idea being that I would share the assets from the game as I made them. But other commitments have shifted me away from self directed game development. Mostly I've taken on more contract work due to financial obligations, which keeps me busy, and unfortunately I'm not able to share any of the fun things I'm making for clients.
I have a soft roadmap of new techniques, software and effects I intend to tackle in the future, but with my current commitments that's not something I'll be able to start on for months at least. So I don't expect there will be any significant updates for a while.
I recommend that people withdraw their patronage. There's always the chance that in the future I'll be able to give this more of my attention, but there's no reason to stick around until then - much better to come back if and when there's something of value here for you.
Every month that goes by that I haven't updated the patreon weighs heavily on me. So why don't I kill the patreon outright? A few reasons. People have reached out to me to let me know that they want to continue supporting me regardless of the update frequency. Which I really appreciate. There's also an existing library of useful effects here that new patrons would like access to, and I'm not able to easily re-host them anywhere else right now. And on a practical level as a self employed game developer, living contract to contract, I can't afford to turn off a source of income.
What I don't want is to have people forget they've subscribed and end up sticking around for months accidentally. I'm sure people have subscribed expecting regular content, which they haven't gotten lately. I've offered this before when I've had long gaps between updates previously, but I'm more than happy to offer a refund to anybody who wants one. Patreon allows me to refund up to the 3 most recent charges - up to 90 days of the processing date. If you want a refund, please reach out and I'm happy to put that through, no judgement and no questions asked. You do not need to remain a patron in order to use the assets and effects in your own projects in the future - if you've supported me for only one month, then the assets are yours to use as you wish.
If patronage drops down to near zero, or if the anxiety of keeping this running but not updating it wears too much on me, I expect I'll still end up retiring it completely, but otherwise at this time I'm going to leave it hibernating as see how it goes. I'm not really sure if that's the right thing to do, so if have an opinion on it please let me know.
Thanks for reading.
