I thought I'd share a little example of the kind of "freelance work" I'll continue doing no matter what. My friend Mark Rudolph created the anthology Satan is Alive: A Tribute to Mercyful Fate a few years ago. I contributed two interpretations of Fate songs for that, and the book came out amazing. I'm very proud to be a part of it. So when Mark asked if I wanted to contribute to his new anthology Morbid Tales: A Tribute to Celtic Frost, I jumped on it. This time my main contribution is an improvised interpretation of Triptykons song "Aurorae", which I made to the song on repeat and no planning over 4 hours one Sunday. I'll post the 4-page comic early for my 10$+ patrons. Mark also asked me to do a couple of pieces for the foreword by Ivar Bjørnson from Enslaved. Above is my take on Abbath showing Ivar the magic of Celtic Frost vocalist Tom Warriors "UGH!" for the first time. A few of my live drawings of Triptykon will also be in the book. So this "freelance work"... is actually totally free, totally voluntary. No one earns a dime. But I believe in Marks work, and any project he asks me to be a part of I'll be a part of. So this is the type of work I want to be able to keep doing, besides my own art and comics. But it's damned hard when you always got bills to pay with proper freelance work for kindergardens and law-firms and other unmentionable things. If I reach my goals, I'll do all my own stuff. My comics. My art. And I'll try to do work for bands I love. Paid work, but... you know... bands can't afford much these days. And I want to do the absolute best. And... I want to occasionally do things like this. Because working with amazing people on great projects... that's it's own reward. Now... there's a few days left to get cool pre-order bonuses for Morbid Tales. So check that out: http://corpseflowerrecords.storenvy.com/collections/880555-morbid-tales-a-tribute-to-celtic-frost-preorder I can't wait to get my hands on it myself.
