Director's Commentary Pilot Episode! (Cyber Shadow, Donpachi, Silent Hill 2 Remake)

Hello Everyone!

This is the pilot episode of the Monthly Patreon-Exclusive video series, Director's Commentary! Where I go through some vids from the month, as well as a legacy older vid of mine, and provide commentary to my work, like directors used to do on DVDs.

This episode's selections are Messenger Vs. CyberShadow, Donpachi, and Silent Hill 2 Remake! And since this is the pilot episode to give everyone an idea what the show is like, it will be freely accessible to the public. The series will continue forward though as exclusive to the Gentry tier of my Patreon.

Thank you everyone for supporting the channel! It's the Patreon that allows me to work full time.

Sincerely,

Mark

On the topic of life systems, even when the end goal is playing for no deaths, playing for no continues is an important in-between (to me at least) At 2:25:00 or something you point out how you misspelled "pseudo", when right after that was another typo ("hitsun" instead of "hitstun") that apparently went unnoticed lol

Steve-Fiction

I saw that too, almost spat my coffee out!

Eduardo Aquinta

Thanks, you're the best.

Hi Tyler, sorry for the delay, here is the link! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1golLE9snVOBdaBQOFDVdVyLoIkhvrPx_/view?usp=sharing

The Electric Underground

WHAT, Wow, I def gotta check this out!

The Electric Underground

i was in the middle of watching this video essay going in on IGN's review of alien isolation and a wild electric underground mention appears at 15:32 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RcyC5EzoeQ you're really gaining appreciation from real ones man. he even devotes a section to gameplay density and rightly credits you for making him think about it

Florida sucks

That s awesome to hear! I'm glad you enjoyed the commentary and yeah I ll increase the noise ducking more next time so I can talk over myself more cleanly ha

The Electric Underground

Just finished the video and while I was already planning on joining the gentry, this makes me excited to get more of this type of content from you. The behind-the-scenes stuff has turned out to be very interesting, especially for someone who's been thinking about starting a small channel myself. One thing I would like to ask for is that you pause the video before you talk, since the video you're reviewing is also your voice and the volume levels are a bit similar, sometimes it gets a bit confusing which one to listen to. Other than that, this has turned out to be something I didn't know I wanted so much.

Tim French

I m glad you enjoyed it!! Yes I think there is a surprising amount of backstory and analysis that can go into video creation, since there is also a lot of writing and creative choices. On the lives discussion it s funny how some of my more hardcore tendencies early on as a player actually overlook some of the design features I look for as a critic. The legacy vids are gonna be fun to revisit and re-examine as the series continues on :-)

The Electric Underground

Wow I didn't expect these to be so meaty. Love the background. Analog TV snow is so cozy. I remember the "lives don't matter" days. I never agreed lol.

Tim French

Yes ha I feel like my channel over the years has been an insane uphill battle in terms of figuring out how to communicate in a visual space but I now look back at the early era with a lot of fondness and almost nostalgia ha

The Electric Underground

The editing in OBS thing is insane! Haha. It's a really encouraging and inspirational thing for anyone wanting to start out making videos - the old fashioned advice/approach of using whatever you have to get the job done. Love it!

RC

Whaaaaaat! Awesome, you're the best!

Tyler Ohlew

Oh yeah feel free to message me directly and I could maybe setup some sessions where I help you edit a video your working on but also teach you editing techniques that I know :-)

The Electric Underground

It was really funky but ironically you d be surprised how much you can do with it, especially scrolling effects. In a funny way it kind of reminds me of when directors do in camera special effects ha. I hardly do stuff like that anymore but yeah obs has some secret utility as a video editing tool on certain occasions

The Electric Underground

Lol that got me.

The Electric Underground

That s really funny you say that cuz I was thinking about doing something like that theoretically where I could help other YouTubers edit a video project but in that process of helping them edit also teach. So it s kinda a 2 for one :-) if you d be interested def message me directly here on discord with your idea your working on and I ll take a look and see if I can help for a lot less money than 1k :-)

The Electric Underground

I'm happy to hear that!! Yes I think if you are a video maker it ll be pretty helpful in figuring out little details on how to edit and compose vids

The Electric Underground

I'm really glad you enjoyed it. Yes I think it can hopefully shed a little light into the video creation process which still involves a lot of abstract and creative decision making at time :-)

The Electric Underground

Hi Tyler, absolutely! I ll upload the audio and link it to you here shortly :-)

The Electric Underground

Heya Mark, any chance you could make this audio as well? I know you put time and work into the video, but I find your efforts work as audio-only too! I just have more time to listen to something at work, not as much free time to watch a video. Hopefully this doesn't come across as rude!

Tyler Ohlew

random but you should check out farnham the drunk if you havent already... he's pretty god tier at NG2. check out his non UT master ninja runs in particular, he's a joy to watch

Florida sucks

Man, this is incredibly helpful to hear your thought processes and challenges you faced on your past videos! Not that many people talk about how they developed their editing style, or how they deliver their lines on camera and stuff like that. Definitely looking forward to more in this series !

Brent Cox

I needed this content, it's relevant to creators especially.

LZRCuteR

I'd pay probably 1k to be Confident at video editing for 'the masses'. Im fine with public speaking, I teach engineers. But editing

LZRCuteR

I really could stand to take an editing class. Mark, you should host or sell an editing course

LZRCuteR

Clearly a case of attacking the Messenger, Lol.

LZRCuteR

Oh that is fantastic to hear! Yes if you want to see an example of a channel slowly oh so slowly growing over time mine is an unusually iterative one ha

The Electric Underground

I can not only enjoy but use this. I have a tiny, very cute channel, just a few thousand subs, I LOVE watching the growth over time that Mark had to go through, both internally and with his setup for broadcasting. I myself have several years of 'growth' to go through lol! So thankful Mark, have a good weekend!

LZRCuteR

Oh yeah that s a great one! Especially because I plan to do another vid about ng2 next year at some point

The Electric Underground

No problem! The commentary ended up being a really fun format I think :-)

The Electric Underground

Ha awesome! I thought it would be good to have an ep available so everyone gets a chance to check the show out :-)

The Electric Underground

I can't imagine editing with obs, but it sure sounds like a pain.

tatsudon

Sounds like you're upselling me. I'll take one, yes please!

LZRCuteR

Thank you Mark, *kisses you on forehead*

Jutah

oh man can't wait to dive in... we need one of these for your ng2 videos
