Speedrunning does have live tournaments as well that have gained a nontrivial amount of attention, as well as exploring different formats of competition (head to head tournaments as well as things like "Break the Record" where it's a day-long grind fest). Some games will definitely work better than others though. Also, lmao, Blue Revolver and/or ZeroRanger at GDQ would be a dream for me especially since those two are pretty much the only ones I can play well at the moment.

2021-02-20 04:39:25 +0000 UTCWatching the event, I think the best practice if you can manage it is to have a spotter for each screen. The other commentators were unable to keep track of everything as well, which is totally understandable since they only have one set of eyes and sometimes the action is heaviest on one screen so they'll rightfully be drawn to that one. In some of those games the deaths & bombs happened in the blink of an eye, they were easy to miss even if you only looked away for 3 seconds.

I spoke to Sami (one of the two Astral Gunners developers) and he is really happy to see his game being showcased and received orders and wishlist. The post-game interview is a great idea so don't change it. Live events are rough, this was my first event was worried I wouldn't get my 1CC.

Even with the mistake at the beginning you held things together just fine and I don't anyone will hold that against you considering the juggling act you were doing. I was impressed you kept up the bomb counter despite how crazy it got basically right off the bat. I think these growing pains will pay off big time for the next event. These events really are great for breathing life into the genre. The head to head survival format from this past one was perfect for people who don't really know the ins and outs to be able to follow along with what's going on. I'm personally not the biggest fan of DDP but your run vs Jaimers may have been the highlight for me, after that the CCWE run with the master vs student angle. The human element really spices things up.

Besides sweating getting my own shit together the only other thought I had was "poor Mark, how is he doing what I'm doing but also all of this other stuff." After stream I pictured you just collapsing. Be proud of what you think and then bring into existence. Nobody else is doing it!

I took some in high school and I have not found good use, except maybe one trip in Mexico years ago, in my life. Anyways, The way you add a more realist perspective in the genre really helps people get more invested in new varieties of games instead of being restricted in only one type of sub-genre. Old school shooting games really fit a big bill for survival stakes.
