patreon

I need your input, please comment! The future of my patreon depends on it!

Okay, maybe a slightly dramatic title, but this is pretty important.

So as my patreon grows, I'm working on more and more commissions. This isn't sustainable. There's a limit to how many commissions I am physically able to do a month, and at the moment patreon commissions alone take up most of my month (not counting commissions outside of patreon).

By the time I finish all of the commissions for the month, it's already next month and it's time to start the cycle again. And it's a stressful cycle, this isn't healthy for me.

I'm finding less and less time to work on personal projects. I've barely been able to update Nightmare War, Ask Human Octavia, Umbra Awakening, barely been able to just try new interesting things.

So my question to everyone pledged to me: Do you want to see more of those personal projects, or do you want more commissions?

My plan is, depending on what you all want, to redo my patreon rewards so that I'm happy and everyone is happy as well.

If you want to see more of those personal projects, I will phase out patreon commissions and instead change the current commission tiers into huge discounts on commissions instead. I would also add more rewards to those project funds instead (more NMW or Octavia content for example).

If you want more commissions, I will have to severely limit the number of patreon commissions and instead for people who can't claim commissions offer a discount on commissions. I will either have to increase the prices on commissions to keep up with demand or accept less commissions.

These changes won't take place until the start of next year, so for the holiday season everyone will still have their commission rewards available from me. If you have credit built up, I will still hold it and you can claim it anytime.

I post this now so we can hopefully have a discussion about this and I can do what is best for all of my supporters. Please let me know what you want to see.

I would like to see more of your personal projects.

More focus on personal projects will probably reduce your stress levels, so that's a good idea. Depending on what specifically is causing you stress with commissions you might try changing some tiers to sort of free form commissions, meaning you have freedom of execution as long as what you draw fits the character and commissioner's general guidelines.

I'm also in the "more personal projects" pool. Monthly drawings may be nice, but I'd rather have a well-rested artist and a look into their own original creations than an assortment of random fanart. Regardless of your ultimate decision, I will continue to provide financial support, and I do hope that everything goes well!

Definitely a consideration, thanks for your input

And I definitely wanna make more Nightmare War

Jon Fawkes

I'm kinda in the same in some some ways. I recommend limiting commissions if that's hard for you.

Indeed and for those who choose the 25 or 50 b you'll be both working on personal projects and giving the donater some sort of commission it'll just be limited to the blog they want :)

Yeah. Hey if it's ok I would like to save the next months rewards so you don't have to worry about me.

LinkinParkFan420

Yeah, I'd really like to get back to updating that regularly

Jon Fawkes

Well yeah I'd have more time to rest but I don't mind working. Commissions are high pressure and stressful though, but if I spent that time on my own stuff it would certainly be less stress

Jon Fawkes

Seems to be the consensus so far

Jon Fawkes

Not a bad idea. I guess a good compromise would be to keep at least a few commission slots for those who really want it

Jon Fawkes

For me personally I'd like to keep the commissions but that's only because I've started a couple long running series with mine lol One thing you could try is have multiple options for one tier, like say the 50 one I'm in. Maybe 50a could be the commissions while 50b could be a large discount on commissions and a guaranteed spot or ask answered in one of the blogs with a picture to accompany the ask, not just the normal text answer. Might be a bit more complicated to setup but it would give both patreons who wanna see more blog stuff and those who wanna keep the commissions options for what they want.

Work on your own personal projects and give yourself time to rest and not be ambushed with so much work.

Minion of the East

Personally I think you should give yourself some rest.

LinkinParkFan420

Personal projects. I've been a patreon since the commissions were a monthly raffle instead of "everyone gets one", so I'm a lot more interested in Ask Tavi and such.

Thistle

Personal projects, but I'd be happy with whatever you wish to do =3 You enjoying what you do is the most important thing here.
