Thoughts on 5000

Reached 5k subs this week. A year into this and I honestly can't believe how well this has gone. There have been times when I make a video that flops or views go down or there has been a terrible comment, that I've wondered why I keep going. But overall, it has been a very good experience.

I've been on social media since 2004 when I joined Facebook (back when it was just a social media network for college students, you even needed a .edu email). I've never really been successful at it. Whether if it's because I was doing it wrong or if I was just never that social, most of the interactions I've had through social media have been very niche.

So it has surprised me how many people that I've met while on this YouTube journey. Maybe because I've chosen such a nice little Open Source niche for myself, but it really feels like I get to talk to a lot more people now. It's nice.

And even the negative stuff that gets commented is way less than I thought it would be. Yeah I disagree with a lot of people in the comments, but mostly the debates have been well meaning and spirited. I don't think that I'd get that in any other niche. The Linux community can be fickle, for sure, but for the most part I think it's pretty awesome.

I don't know if the growth will continue. I hope it does. I'll keep making content, and coming up with ideas. But even if it doesn't. Even if I stay around 5k, this has been an amazing experience.

Thanks to all of you especially for not only subscribing to the channel, but for subbing here on Patreon as well. I truly do appreciate it so much.

Best,

Matt
