Artix is Next...Kinda
Added 2021-09-06 15:49:58 +0000 UTCSo my next long term review is decided. Artix won the poll. I don't however believe I'll spend a ton of time on it. It's basically just arch minus systemd. I ended up going with runnit as the init system, though I might give OpenRC a try as well, I don't know.
I really don't expect to have much to say about the distro itself. It's just another Arch based distro, which I use every day and everyone basically knows my thoughts on already. I only put it in the poll because it was requested.
So I expect the video to be mostly about my experience moving away from SystemD. That should be interesting, but I don't think I'm going to need a full month to have an opinion on whether or not I miss systemd or not. I expect to use Artix for a week or so. Maybe two.
Then I'm going to do OpenSuse. It was number 2 in the poll and not a lot of FossTubers actually take time to do any reviews on it, so it should be a good time. I will also be interested to see how hard it is to get things like DWM installed on it. I don't see many people actually using Window Managers on OpenSuse, at least it doesn't seem to happen on r/unixporn. LOL.
Anyways, that's the outlook for the distro review series coming up. I still plan on doing a few of those early, first look distro videos. Those do very well even if I find them very boring to make. Maybe there's something there that I can use to spice them up a bit, I don't know. I will think on it.
Hope everyone has a great week,
Matt
