2025-11-06 02:27:30 +0000 UTCSome people who are newer to Lacan and psychoanalysis start to suggest that there is some sort of broad-sweeping “psychoticization” of the younger generations, but what I think we’re seeing is a mass-proliferation of new neurotic phenotypes, new ways in which neurotic fantasy constructs itself. Also, there is some theory about how when people are online, it’s like the rules are looser, they feel less beholden to their IRL dogmas. I can’t recall any particular piece but I’ve certainly seen some citations in recent publications. I suspect the Lacanians need to get to work at theorizing the internet and the psychoanalytic implications of virtuality, and if they have already, I’d love to know.
