2025-09-08 06:09:32 +0000 UTCJohn Deely (who knew a lot about Peirce) also said that Eco represented a transitional figure between semiology and semiotics. Eco wrote a “Introduzione alla ricerca semiologica” in 1968, before his “Trattato di semiotica generale” in 1975, which helps to illustrate this. Deely says that Eco ultimately constructed a semiotic theory within the domain of semiology (whose horizon for the action of signs never extends beyond human culture). Why nobody took up (and extended) Eco’s mantle is a mystery to me though

2025-08-27 18:23:04 +0000 UTCJust to note, tho ur point is still completely valid: Brown University had a Dept of Semiotics in 8Os and 90s and the graduates were called ‘semiotots’…. i think that’s funny… anyway… also Silvere Lotringer up at Columbia U was publishing semiotext(e), I think, well into the 21 st C. Also, I never find u in the least bit boring…but prolly I am blind to it bc I am prolly very boring.
