Bash Challenge, Linux Problems and More
Added 2021-06-29 04:29:11 +0000 UTCSo this blog post is going to be a bit all over the place. It seems that I couldn't settle on one topic, so I will just smash them all in here. It'll probably be incoherent like normal, so win?
The first thing to talk about is the upcoming Bash Challenge for the pod. I have two problems with it (Despite it being my own damn idea). I need an idea of what to do. That's the first challenge. It needs to be useful and not based on something that I've done before. The next part will actually be doing it. I know so little bash.
But I guess it wouldn't be called a "Challenge" if it wasn't challenging, eh?
I think, I hope that I've finally gotten my two week slog of Linux problems solved. I was on Vanilla Arch for about 5 days last week, and honestly it wasn't too bad. But the deal breaker ended up being window capture in OBS wasn't working properly. I attempted to get help, but everyone seemed to know what the problem was but not how to fix it. Why it works in Arco but not Arch is a mystery to me and everyone else it seems. I'm happy that it now works and I've gone now a few days without major system wide problems.
Firefox continues to be a PITA though. Switching to the ESR helped a bit and has at least made it usable. But I still notice stutters every now and then where I'm typing something and the letters take a long time to actually appear on screen. IDK what the problem is here. It's annoying AF.
I tried to switch to Brave after last weeks #StreamFail, but it sucks donkey balls. If you download something, there is this big honking popup that appears at the bottom and you have to explicitly dismiss it to get it to go away. I hate it. Really the reason is that you can't turn it off. To me, if you're going to be an open source browser, you damn well better give people an option to customize something, but Brave doesn't. Too focused on cryptononsense I guess.
As you can tell, I don't like Brave. I also tried Vivaldi. That thing is a mess too, and I didn't last a day. It has some cool features, but it's still a heavy mess.
I want to get qutebrowser working. People keep telling me that it works well now blocking ads, even on YouTube, but I've not been able to get it to work and mid roll ads are the absolute worst.
Anyways, I think this week is going to be a better week when it comes to Linux. Hopefully that means I can get back on track doing some early access for you guys.
Hope everyone has a great week,
Matt
