I'm using Xmonad Again

I'll probably do a video on xmonad again, but I wanted to talk about this here. This morning I decided that I was going to give xmonad another try. I don't know why other than I was really bored and was desperately looking for something to do a video on. The vid I ended up doing wasn't about xmonad, but I did end up logging into it and sticking around throughout the whole day.

I started off with my own config, the one I was using when I left xmonad 19 days ago. But soon I needed scratch pads, and I still couldn't get them to work. It's something to do with the libraries that the ArcoLinux config that I had modified was importing. I don't know how to fix it without breaking something else. One of the downsides of using someone else's config.

So I decided that I would use DT's config. And I got those to work. Finally.

There was a point when I first switched to DWM that I was completely lost and thought that there was no way I was ever going to get the hang of C and that it was going to be a lost cause. Eventually, there was a moment that that feeling changed.

I think I've reached that moment with Haskell and xmonad. I've made several changes to DT's config and and understand them, which is the key point. Whether or not I can add something in like a new feature, remains to be seen, but I do feel like I understand things a bit more. It's a bit rewarding, even if I had to rely on the crutch of using DT's config to get here.

So far, I like xmonad when it works. Do I like it better than DWM? No. Despite the problems that DWM has when adding in too many patches, I still like the extensibility of DWM. I like that it doesn't have a ton of features unless I add them. Xmonad has all the features, but some of them still don't seem to play nice together and that can be very confusing.

I'll keep using xmonad for awhile and see how it goes.
