Starting on my Kitty Journey And Thoughts on Alacritty
Added 2021-05-17 18:36:08 +0000 UTCSometime next month, I'll be making a video about using the Kitty terminal. I just installed it last night and I've got it themed now.
My thoughts so far is that I miss Alacritty's auto update feature where you make a change to your config and it updates automatically. Going away from that is like going back in time and trying to update xresources. It's kind of painful.
I guess I need to see what is so special about kitty that so many people think it's a good alternative to Alacritty.
And speaking of Alacritty.
I was so opposed to it when I first made the switch away from Termite. This was before Termite was dead. I hated (and still do) the config file of alacritty. It's so long and unwieldy compared to Termite that it was almost intimidating.
But I've gotten used to it. And Alacritty is so fast and that auto updating feature is sooooo awesome, now I find myself missing it.
I did have some problems with Alacritty over the last few months. For one, it doesn't like w3m image previews in Ranger. Sometimes they worked, sometimes they didn't. It was weird, and apparently based on the weather. I also found that I coudn't get it to replace ST in my scratchpads. For whatever reason it wouldn't work. Has something to do with the way Alacritty sets titles or something, IDK.
Other than that, I'm going to miss Alacritty and it's likely that I'll be going back to it after my month with kitty is over.
What terminal do you use? Do you try out other terminals from time to time?
UPDATE: For those who are in tiers 2-5, early access to the occasional video will return this week. Real life has just been kicking my ass lately, so I'm behind. I'm working on getting it back together.
