The Death of Termite

Some people have questioned why it mattered to me when the likes of Alacritty, kitty, and st exist. The answer is complicated.
I think to boil it down to its simplest, the reason is that it was my first real terminal emulator. Sure, I used Konsol and Gnome terminal before that, and a small stint with Terminator, but those were just tools. Things I used to get a few commands run when I wanted to install a program or move around some files.
Termite was the first one that I customized. The first one I delved into the configuration file of and made my own. It was like a teen's first car. I got in there and put decals on the outside and spray painted it with cheap spray paint from the local hardware store. Termite was my first when it came to scripting and ricing and so much more.
That was why it mattered to me when the project was shut down. It was like the death of my first distro. It's sad.
I mean, I'll get over it. I don't even use Termite anymore and haven't for a couple of months. I use st now and switch between it and Alacritty all the time. Termite has fallen out of use since I made my Alacritty video. So, it's not as if I'm really shedding tears over the death of Termite.
More, it just has made me think of my journey since I started using Linux full time. I still consider myself very much a Linux noob. But I look back on that guy four years ago who installed Solus Budgie (my first distro), and the differences are stark. I know so much more now, and I'm so much more comfortable making mistakes than I was when I first started. I mean, I was so terrified that I was going to break my computer when I first installed Linux on a partition, I was just positive it was going to happen. It didn't and that's why I'm here today. I can only imagine what would have happened if it had broken my machine. Maybe I'd still be a Windows user. 🤢
Termite was something that I used on that journey. And it's gone now. So yeah, it affected me a bit. But I will carry on.
