Live Streaming is Hard and Thoughts on The Channel

That whole saying "it gets easier with practice" better be true. I did my second live stream this week, and I do think that it was better than the first. The audio for sure was better. I watched a video by Podcastage, and he had some great settings that really helped. It is so much better I may be able to stop recording my audio separately, though I guess we'll see.

Most of this post is inside baseball, so sorry about that, but I thought it might be interesting.

I've been youtubing (not a word but should be) pretty consistently since just after Thanksgiving. In that time, I think I've been astonishingly successful in terms of growth, mostly thanks to the shoutout by DT. I was at 409 subs the day he did that vid, I just crossed 2330. So yeah, that's great.

I do think that my videos have gotten better. There's actually video of me on them now. The thumbs, though still not great, are better. And the content itself has also gotten better, with the delivery and editing still amateur, but way better than when I started. 

I've learned so much. I've learned to edit audio better, learned to actually edit the videos and a ton of stuff in kdenlive (including that it's a buggy piece of trash), and quite a bit about YouTube.

I think that I've got a long way to go. I watch the likes of The Linux Experiment and see how polished his are, and want to get there. I think I can. I need to still work on my delivery a lot more, and maybe start preparing more for my videos. One thing I've always done is that I have a tendency to wing things. All things. I've done it since I was very young, and usually it works out okay. There's a lot of stuff in the world you can just improvise on, and do well at. But there's a barrier. It can only get you so far. I think that's where I'm at now.

So the next level of the channel will be being better prepared for videos. I'm not going to change the tone. I like that my videos are informal and basically unscripted, but that doesn't mean I can't put some effort into knowing what I'm talking about before I jump in.
